Black Moon Rising with Tommy Lee Jones
Today I thought I would pick on an action movie for your enjoyment. How does ‘Black Moon Rising’ sound? Well, I settled down with my popcorn and glass of wine and popped the DVD into the machine and prepared to be awed by Tommy Lee Jones and Linda Hamilton. Tommy Lee Jones is usually one of my favourites so I was really expecting to enjoy this film.
Please feel free to pass your reviews back to me if you have seen any of the films that I add to my blog.
Synopsis
Tommy Lee Jones is QUINT, a shrewd and tough professional thief working for the government. He has hidden a computer disc containing vital evidence in a sleek, fast prototype automobile which is stolen by a sophisticated car theft ring in Los Angeles.
One of those overlooked gems, It happens.
Wrong time. Wrong place. Who Knows? But sometimes even movies released into regular circulation from the major studios fall through the cracks.
This is definitely one of those. Tommy Lee Jones as the industrial spy is as cool and calm as he’s ever been. Linda Hamilton is as good as she’s ever been and Richard Jaekel turns in another steady performance. The plot is clever and tight enough to satisfy most and the directing by Harley Cockliss is tight and well paced. This is just a good action thriller, and it has one of the best fist-fight scenes ever. It isn’t quite up to the budget of the newer “high concept” titles like Enemy of the State or The Rock, but it’s every bit as nifty as those. Jones’ performance alone is worth the price of the rental so grab a pizza and a six pack and go for it. Note: The “Guy Factor” is real high here, so all you testosterone-laden males out there are virtually guaranteed a good time.

Tommy Lee makes it Worth it
Tommy Lee makes the movie worth watching except for the one objectionable scene with Hamilton. She does not do her role justice but I assume this is about the beginning of her career. At times her delivery of speech was much too soft.
Her acting was ok. As for pulling a car heist? Ah, well! What a way to lose his evidence. Hey, the police hired Quint! What do they expect?
Great action – darn good actors – fast enough pace for the story – Tommy Lee just keeps getting better.

My Verdict
So what’s the verdict? Unlike most movies that are good all the way through or bad all the way through, this one is a mixed bag.

Not just guy stuff, Tommy Lee is for us ladies too
This movie is loaded with guy stuff BUT while this might be true, 90 minutes or so of Tommy Lee Jones (and a couple great love scenes) works for me too! Killer fight scenes as well. This was a very enjoyable movie. Unfortunately, done before Jones was really appreciated. What took everyone so long?

Tommy
Is he good, or is he good – best love scene with the best guy in it. Good work, Tommy!
